R n B
With their mixture of pop and alternative R'n'B á la Glass Animals and Portugal. The Man, the three Berliners by choice create a sound that one would rather expect to find on the West Coast of the USA than in the German capital - American sound produced in the heart of Berlin. In their songs Soft Drug create an outlet for identity crises, a soundtrack for security and the arduous liberation from Toxic Masculinity. Edgy synth melodies meet rolling beats. Attention to detail meets tidy structure. The perfect scenario for a radiant high pop vocal whose doubts and questions are so clearly drawn that they hit straight to the heart. In 2017, Soft Drug will rediscover this very pop for themselves and leave Germany behind for a while. In a small terraced house in Manchester, which at times also serves as a recording studio, the band spends a year fine-tuning ideas, taking inspiration from influences in their surroundings and being sprinkled with English television. During this time, in exchange with other artists and musicians, they become particularly aware of how much they care about free individual development and mutual solidarity. Lyrics have become more concrete and now deal with necessary discourses about addressing depression, confronting and accepting one's own weaknesses, and an image of masculinity that has long been outdated and needs to be reshaped. Back in Germany, Soft Drug were able to merge these experiences into a new whole in Berlin and incorporate them into final songs, productions and lyrics.

Statements that ask questions. In which world do we want to live and what is the place intended for us there? Questions that are becoming more and more urgent and whose first answers are perhaps to be found in oneself. Sketches of this world can be found in Soft Drugs Sound. A diversity of influences that never overshoots the mark. With beats á la Anderson.Paak, with melancholy á la Arlo Parks, Soft Drug create depth without detours, playfully referencing the pop and r'n'b of the 2000s. Fresh from their new home in Neukölln with a clear finger pointing across the Atlantic. A touch of L.A. in the melting pot of Berlin.
