Dr. Umwuchts Tanzpalast

Influenced by Manu Chao to Extrawelt, Sophie Hunger to Rainald Grebe, The Do to Ray Charles, the Bamberg sextet Dr. Umwuchts Tanzpalast is at least as much a social experiment as the band. The group is a music, travel, pleasure and discourse community: Six people - eight opinions.

Dr. Umwucht's Tanzpalast stands out with a peculiar mix of styles: German-language singer-songwriter pieces that tell stories from life, that cannot be caught, that remain unpredictable, that swing into 4-to-the-floor disco parts or end up in swing-punk finals. Pieces that somehow manage to reconcile double bass with synthesizer, sampler and saxophone and that cannot be resisted dancing in the jazzy offbeat in two-four time. Because we have to dance.
